Secret Pals

I've been fascinated with the idea of the Secret Pal Exchange since I first heard about it. At the time, we'd been unemployed and nearly homeless, so obviously I could not join at that time - I couldn't afford to buy myself anything, let alone someone I could not tell my name to. I was just reading on a message group I subscribe to that they're doing a year-long SP exchange. To me, that seems a little extreme. I mean, requiring each person to send gifts each month for an entire year, not being able to give your name? What a thankless proposition. I somehow miss out in the normal Secret Pal thing, not sure who's in charge or how I can sign up, but can someone please point me in the right direction at the beginning of one?

In other news, I rearranged a couple vacation days now that I know my new schedule for work. Instead of having 2 days off for my anniversary, I have a 5 day weekend. I'm skipping the day off for The Wiggles since I get out of work early enough now to get there in time. It's just going to suck that I have all of Aug-Oct without any extra days off, then I have 4 days off in Nov to do Christmas Shopping. But I'll be working day shift and I don't think I'll get as burned out.

I didn't get any knitting done yesterday. Courtney was up from 4:30-7:30 or so when I finally got her a bottle and she passed out. I was exhausted when my dad called down to say he was going to the car show and my mom had already left for the hospital, so I had to send dh up to watch them and he was supposed to let me sleep a while longer. He didn't end up waking me up until nearly time to leave for work, so we drove seperately, since I can afford to get there a few minutes later (my team starts at 2:15, all the other 2nd shift people start at 2). It's been so humid that I don't want to bring wool out of the house. I just need to make it the next 3 days and then I'll be on vacation. I might bring my granny square afghan with me to work on today, Sunday, because it'll be quiet and maybe we can stop and get something to eat on the way to work and skip dinner or get an icecream instead of food like we did last weekend. People steal the food out of the fridge, so you can't even bring a decent meal and put it in the refrigerator until lunch. Anyway, if we're not trying to eat dinner, I'll have time to work on my blanket. I wanted to have it done by Wednesday, but it doesn't look like that will happen. My aunt may not be well enough to be released from the hospital and go back to the cancer center for treatment by Wed either, so I probably have an extra week. Top projects for the next 2 weeks are the granny square afghan, the buttonhole bag, and fuzzy feet slippers.
